Bill Belichick Gave Perfect Belichick Answer Regarding Coordinator Titles

Bill Belichick is apparently "not big on titles" heading into the 2022 NFL season.

The six-time Super Bowl champion addressed the question regarding who would serve as the offensive and defensive coordinators on his New England Patriots staff and, in typical Belichick fashion, provided a very dry response.

"I'm not big on titles," Belichick said while appearing at the NFL league meetings in Palm Beach on Monday (March 28), via Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. "We don't have to call any (plays) for a while."

The Patriots will be without longtime offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who accepted the head coaching position with the Las Vegas Raiders in January.

New England hasn't had an official defensive coordinator since Matt Patricia -- who returned to the team as a senior football advisor last year -- initially left to become the head coach of the Detroit Lions in 2018.

Belichick did reveal that Patricia would serve an offensive role working alongside Joe Judge, who had also previously left his special teams coordinator/wide receivers coach role with the Patriots to become the New York Giants head coach in 2020 and is currently listed as an "offensive assistant."

Belichick's son, Steve, has handled defensive play-caller duties during the past two seasons, though is officially listed as an outside linebackers coach.

Inside linebackers coach, Jerod Mayo is also expected to play a vital role in New England's defensive game-planning and play-calling.
