Ex-Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn Calls Brian Kelly's Move to LSU 'Classless'

Brady Quinn: “Brian Kelly might feel like he has a better chance to win a National Championship at LSU, but the irony of it is that his team could literally be playing for one this year, and really the next two years – they have two top-five recruiting classes right now. He’s leaving all of that, and I think the way he did it was more about his ego and how he feels like he was treated at times at Notre Dame… At the end of the day, you don’t leave the way he did, literally out on the road recruiting, leaving a recruits house after this news breaks, and having other coaches out there who are on the road recruiting. You don’t leave in a classless way like that after becoming the all-time winningest coach unless there’s more to it and you want to do this in kind of a conniving way. He’s leaving these players with at least a chance to play in a New Year’s Six game, and they may have a chance at playing for a National Championship. I know we talk about players opting out of bowl games because they have an injury risk but this is entirely different. This is just a guy walking out, and it’s a classless, classless move. If he doesn’t win quick at LSU, in 3-4 years we could be looking back and laughing at this.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Fox Sports Radio host and former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn discuss Brian Kelly’s shocking decision to leave the Fighting Irish for the vacant LSU head coaching job.

Kelly finished his career at Notre Dame with one National Championship appearance (2012), and one College Football Playoff berth (2020), and had his 2021 Fighting Irish team sitting at 11-1 and ranked six in the country with an outside shot to make the Playoff if Michigan or Cincinnati loses in their conference championship games.

On Tuesday, the 60-year-old Kelly joined Lincoln Riley as another big-time head coach swapping blue blood programs, taking over for the ousted Ed Orgeron in a loaded SEC West with Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, Lane Kiffin, and Mike Leach.

Check out the segment above as Quinn, who has the school’s all-time record for touchdown passes but never played under Kelly, details why he thought it was a ‘classless’ and 'conniving' move to abandon Notre Dame when he did, with the team still potentially alive for a final four appearance.
