Baker Mayfield's Days in the NFL Are Numbered

Jason McIntyre: “Once Baker Mayfield is cut loose by Carolina do you think anybody gives him a chance or is he too much of a distraction guy who can’t hold a clipboard?”

Robert Guerra: “No, he’s gone, he’s out of the NFL.”

McIntyre: “Nobody is willing to take him on??”

Guerra: “No, because he hasn’t shown the kind of emotional maturity to be a backup quarterback. He’s not good enough for the ‘chip’, for the comments, for the t-shirts, for the podcast appearances, he’s just not.”

McIntyre: “So here’s my question: Week 1, 2023, is Baker Mayfield on an NFL roster or is he in the studio at a TV network?”

Guerra: “If you would ask me this question in four more weeks I can give you a definitive answer, but right now my lean is he’s working for ESPN covering Big 12 football.”
Chris Broussard: “Rob G. threw out the notion that Baker Mayfield may not be in the NFL next year. Now, it sounds crazy, I’ll admit, but I agree with Rob G. in this regard… If this continues and he gets benched 3, 4, 5 weeks from now, or whenever Darnold can get back, and he sits the rest of the year, Baker Mayfield is undoubtedly – for all his issues and his flaws – there’s no doubt he SHOULD be in the NFL next year as a backup. He’s good enough to be a backup quarterback at least in the NFL next year for sure, but it’s almost to me like a Russell Westbrook thing. I don’t think he has the mentality and I don’t know if he would be able to accept it. He’s already getting into it a little bit with the fans in Carolina that booed the team. Four weeks in he might already be alienating himself from the fan base. I still think he’s good enough to be in the league, but if this season continues this way he might become a Cam Newton-type ‘aura’ that might be a distraction to have Baker as a backup. THAT could possibly keep him out of the league.”

Listen to Chris Broussard and Rob Parker discuss Fox Sports Radio producer Robert Guerra’s recent comments about Baker Mayfield, where Guerra said he doesn’t think Mayfield will even be in the league next year and will be 'working for ESPN covering Big 12 football.’

Check out the segment above as Broussard argues that Baker definitely has the talent to be an NFL backup at the very least, but says that Mayfield may be on the wrong track towards tainting himself as a distraction and a toxic ‘aura’ similar to what Cam Newton has become.
