Netflix announced its three-year partnership with the NFL, which will include airing two Christmas Day marquee games in 2024 and at least one holiday game through 2026 in a news release shared on Wednesday (May 15).
“Last year, we decided to take a big bet on live — tapping into massive fandoms across comedy, reality TV, sports, and more,” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer, in the news release. “There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts. We’re so excited that the NFL’s Christmas Day games will be only on Netflix.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to be the first professional sports league to partner with Netflix to bring live games to fans around the world,” says Hans Schroeder, NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution. “The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition and to partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans.”
The Christmas Day matchups will be revealed during the NFL's official schedule release Wednesday night. Netflix had previously partnered with the NFL on its hit Quarterback series, which featured Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, then-Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and then-Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota's respective 2022 seasons, and is set to debut its followup, Receiver, featuring wide receivers Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions), as well as tight end George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers) as part of an eight-episode series set to premiere in Summer 2024.
