Dan Patrick: “The last time I talked to you about this, which was November 25th, you didn’t think it would work. Change your opinion?”
Charles Barkley: “Not at all, I don’t think it’s going to work. I think they brought him in because they weren’t sure what was going to happen to Kyrie, and brought him in as an insurance policy. It’s going to be fascinating to watch those three guys play together IF they all play together. We have no idea what’s going on with Kyrie. I don’t think it’s going to work at all because those other guys don’t bring any diversity to the table. Those other two guys are offensive players. They don’t play defense and they don’t rebound. There’s only one basketball. I think it has zero chance of working.”
DP: “What kind of offense do you run if you’ve got three Alpha’s like that?”
Barkley: “That’s why I don’t think it’s going to work. It'll be them taking turns, and I don’t think that’s going to work. When KD went to Golden State, he’s like ‘OK, I’ll play defense and rebound the ball.’ I don’t see Kyrie and James doing that. When KD has got the ball they’re just going to be standing around. I don’t think it’s going to work at all. It’s going to be fun watching.” (Full Segment Above)
Listen to NBA Hall of Famer and TNT host Charles Barkley explain to Dan Patrick why he thinks there’s ‘zero chance’ the James Harden blockbuster trade to the Nets works out, and why he can’t picture three ball dominators complementing each other’s skillsets in any way.
Check out the video above as Barkley details why this trade had more to do with Kyrie Irving's future with the team, as Barkley believes this trade was an ‘insurance policy', in case an absentee Irving continues to be incognito and unaccounted for as the season goes on.
