'STOP HONORING THE '85 BEARS!': Colin Cowherd Rips Lowly Bears Organization

Colin Cowherd: “We can just keep firing coaches and drafting new quarterbacks all over this league, but have you ever noticed it’s the same teams that are always looking for a quarterback and drafting in the top 7 or 8? Since 2007, the year after the Bears lost the Super Bowl, they’ve only had 4 seasons above .500. You make fun of the Lions, that’s the same number of seasons the Lions have had above .500. It is time to blow things up in Chicago AGAIN. The Bears just wore their centennial 1936 uniforms. I Googled it this morning, they averaged 18 points per game in 1936, this year they average 17. You can go ahead and fire the coach, and hopefully, you have the right quarterback, but you need a brand pivot. Stop honoring the ’85 Bears. Yes, it was great in 1985. So was MTV, ‘Downtown’ Julie Brown, and Members Only jackets. I looked this up this morning, your last eight coaches, six have been defense, and Nagy is your most clever in years and you don’t like him either. He got Mitch Trubisky to the playoffs twice, I rest my case on him although it is a mess right now. You need a brand pivot. Nothing against the ’85 Bears. I can name the whole team, so can you. STOP HONORING THEM. FORWARD, FORWARD, FORWARD, BRAND PIVOT… The Bears have all their money in their front-seven because that makes them feel good in Chicago. ‘OUR DEFENSE IS TOUGH!’ How is that ‘tough’ doing ya? You haven’t had a quarterback that you can depend on since the ’50s. That ‘tough’ thing has gotten you one great team. Look at the teams winning in this league right now? Aggressive, moving forward, and not romanticizing the past. Go make fun of the Lions, but since 2007 they have the same number of winning seasons as you. The Bears need a total brand pivot. Stop worrying about defense, and being tough guys, and spending all your money on pass rushers. Spend money on a left tackle, go get a great corner, go over-draft wide receiver for a change, and under-draft linebackers for a change. ‘MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY’ and ’85 BEARS’, God they probably have nine different specials and games next year to honor, that’s great but it’s OVER, the league has changed.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks the Chicago Bears need to not only completely rebuild their roster, but also their ‘brand’ as well, as Colin details why this ‘tough guy’ persona that they’ve still tried to emulate since the legendary 1985 Bears teams doesn’t translate to modern football.
