Fernando Tatis Jr. May Have Played His Final Game For the Padres

Jason Smith: “You have a history of being injured, you were injured away from the team in a motorcycle accident where it’s not something you should be doing with a $340 million contract, and now you have an 80-game suspension for PEDs? Not only is your general manager saying you need to grow up, but your teammates too. You gotta look in the mirror a little bit. This is where if you’re Tatis you stay away for the next few months because nothing is going to happen is going to help you. I think the bigger question is does he play his next game as a member of the Padres or is he somewhere else? Because somebody else will take him. $340 million contract, they paid a year of it, he’s a great player, change of scenery, you can afford to pay that with whatever city it is, or they figure out something with his contract where they’re only going to pay out a little bit and then they can trade him… I really wonder if his next game is as a Padre or if it’s someplace else because I don’t know how welcomed back in the clubhouse he’s going to be. You just made a big trade for Juan Soto, don’t you want to save money for him? You can’t pay both of them. I’m sorry, I gotta feeling you traded for Juan Soto knowing full well that Fernando Tatis Jr. is not going to be on the team for all that long with Juan Soto as your franchise player.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Jason Smith of Fox Sports Radio explain why he has his doubts about whether Fernando Tatis Jr. will ever play for the Padres again, as Smith believes Tatis’ 8-game suspension coupled with San Diego’s deadline trade for Juan Soto could put Tatis’ future with the team in question.

Check out the segment above as Smith details why Tatis may have played out his hand in San Diego.
