Could former Boston Celtics fan favorite Isaiah Thomas be returning to the franchise?
That's something Thomas not only wants for himself but believes "the world wants" to happen.
“There’s a little talk about that,” Thomas said during a recent appearance on ESPN's Jalen & Jacoby Show via MassLive.com. “I think the world wants that to happen because it only makes sense. If that opportunity presents itself, I know I can help that team, especially in the young guys over there in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.”
Thomas, 32, recently made headlines after scoring 81 points in a Pro-Am game, which included a video showing a powerful moment in which the point guard is brought to tears after the game.
"I wasn’t showing y’all a snippet of me being emotional so y’all can feel sorry 4 me," Thomas tweeted after the video went viral. "Hell no!!! My life is GREAT!! I was showing y’all that to see what it feels like to give everything you have to something you love and to see it slowly coming back where it’s supposed to be TMC."
The two-time All-Star was last signed to the New Orleans Pelicans on a 10-day contract in April 2021, averaging 7.7 points in three games.
Thomas was an all-star twice during his three seasons with the Celtics, which included scoring a career-high 28.9 points per game in 2017-18, as well as 22.2 points per game during the 2016-17 season.
The Los Angeles Lakers, who have acquired numerous former all-star veterans throughout the 2021 offseason, are also reported to have inquired about Thomas, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
“I know I can help,” Thomas said via ESPN. “I’m just trying to present myself in a way that I can show teams that I’m healthy in any role that’s given to me. That’s all I’m doing. Hopefully, that call comes and I’ll be ready to take it back to the top.”
