Why the Seattle Seahawks Have Failed as a Franchise

Colin Cowherd: “The Seahawks are doing a bad ‘Rams’ impression. The Rams are in glitzy Los Angeles but they do a great job bargain shopping. Sony Michel, they got him for nothing as a rental, OBJ is a rental, and all they had to give up for Von Miller was a couple draft picks. The Rams do a really good job and they draft well… In a division with Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Kliff Kingsbury, the Seahawks have an outdated offense, a 70-year-old coach, and a defensive-leaning guy; the Seahawks are officially broken. They have been a house of cards for years. They draft poorly, therefore they reach and they take big swings. Seattle reminds me of the person who got rich early in their life, they blew a lot of that money, they’re trying to maintain their lifestyle, so they take some big financial risks to maintain their lifestyle, but they miss on most of them and they never fully reassess their financial reality. Now they have aging assets, an old home, and bad real estate. Seattle gave up all their first round picks but so do the Rams. The difference is that the Rams are great bargain shoppers. OBJ, Von Miller, and Sony Michel cost you nothing. The Rams draft better than the Seahawks, 14 of their 22 starters, many of them high-end, they drafted. When Seattle goes out and takes a big swing they get a box safety for two first round picks and a third who is never healthy. When the Rams go out for a big swing they get Andrew Whitworth, Jalen Ramsey, the first or second-best corner in the league, and Matt Stafford, who is top 5 in MVP. Seattle is just doing a lousy Rams impression. The glitzy Los Angeles team works harder, drafts better, bargain shops better, and when they do take a big swing they go get a star. Seattle had all this early success, they blew a Super Bowl, they didn’t pay attention, and they didn’t draft well. If you go to their last 4 or 5 drafts, the only people who are any good is a punter and somebody connected to Russell Wilson [DJ Metcalf]. When the Rams go for a big trade it’s not to compensate for mistakes and a lifestyle they can’t live up to, it’s to add to a really smart, shrewd, and savvy culture. When the Seahawks go big on Jamal Adams it’s to compensate because they whiffed on defensive line picks, they don’t have a pass rush, and they’re trying to engineer it. You can give up your first round picks, the Rams have, but they get Matt Stafford, Jalen Ramsey, and great compensation for it. The Seahawks get a box safety who is never healthy.” (Full Video Above)
