Why the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving Nets Have Been a Massive Failure

Colin Cowherd: “There is a difference between ‘how’ a successful business operates and ‘why’ it’s successful. Kevin Durant and Kyrie get the ‘how’ – they’ve been on championship teams – but they don’t get the ‘why’, they’re clueless. They just think ‘Hey, just throw a great couple hoopers like us together! It doesn’t matter who coaches! Bench play? System? C’mon man!’ They really believe that. They’re clueless. There was a reason why the Bulls and the ‘Showtime’ Lakers worked. People sacrificed for themselves. Kareem and Magic had to figure out entirely different personalities. Draymond Green and Steph Curry were selfless and able to be coached and coached hard, and were able to be confrontational and work through problems. Let’s be totally frank, the Brooklyn experiment is a massive failure. Three years, two first-round exits and a second-round exit. No chemistry, no plan, and I’m told Steve Nash is ‘over it’, all the drama. But KD and Kyrie didn’t want a plan, and they don’t wanna be coached. They don’t even think they need a coach, and this is the mess you’re left with. They rolled their eyes at the rest of the league and they leaned into being villains, and they’re lousy villains. Even movie villains get foiled in the end by the good guys, but these guys are terrible villains and ten minutes into the movie they got foiled. They don’t want to be coached and it’s embarrassing. ‘Anybody can coach us!’ Great coaching not only elevates players, but a great coach hides your flaws. McVay could hide Goff’s flaws, Belichick could elevate Tom Brady… The Nets are playing rec center basketball, they don’t run any plays. They don’t have a plan and I’m not sure they want a plan. We’re three years in and it has FAILED.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving-led Brooklyn Nets, which was birthed in the summer of 2019, has been a ‘massive failure’, as the team is facing an 0-2 series deficit to the Celtics that could lead to their third first-round exit in four years.
