Colin Cowherd: “There was a story today that said Bill Belichick is going to name Matt Patricia as the offensive coordinator for the Patriots. He’s a ‘defensive’ coordinator… The Patriots the last two years have had the best defense in the NFL and their record, as the NFL pivots to offense, is 17-16. This will sound crazy but it’s really not when you listen to what Robert Kraft has been saying for the last couple of years. He’s ‘disappointed’, and Kraft was always closer to Brady than Belichick. If the Patriots came out and missed the playoffs again, and again were around .500, is it time? He was 0-2 last year to Tua and the Dolphins are significantly better offensively. He was embarrassed by the Bills in division, he’s got two of his kids now on the staff, a defensive coordinator is now becoming the offensive coordinator, and as Belichick has had increasing power, their drafts are embarrassing. This year was a MESS. I have general managers on my phone that I trust and they were like ‘that’s as weird a draft as we’ve ever seen.’ The Patriots draft poorly and Belichick controls it. Family members everywhere, a defensive coordinator as an offensive coordinator…I’m being kind here, it feels like they’ve lost their way. Think of how it can end poorly for older coaches… Don Shula had a winning season and he was suddenly gone, and Tom Landry got bad fast. Matt Patricia as your offensive coordinator?? There have never been higher-end offensive guys in the league, this is the smartest the league has ever been, and you’re just going to move a defensive guy there? Are you watching your offense??
