Rob Parker Says Patrick Mahomes' NFL Career May Have Already Plateaued

Chris Broussard: “Patrick Mahomes had a poor outing to put it kindly. 24 for 38, that’s 63%. 241 yards, his lowest in more than a month. He had no touchdowns and two picks for a passer rating of 59.2. And a lost fumble for three turnovers on him. What did you think of that?”

Rob Parker: “It was shocking that he played that poorly. Everyone said Eric Bieniemy didn’t do anything but stand there. I’m not saying Bieniemy makes anybody but the offense hasn’t been the same. You can’t keep stripping down players from anybody, I don’t care who you are as a quarterback. You saw this later in Tom Brady’s career. You can’t just carry any ol' body. You gotta have some people who can make plays for you. You ask people in the league and they’re quick to always say Patrick is the best quarterback in the league and most of that is off reputation, it’s not off his play this year. He is NOT the best quarterback in the league. Russell Wilson is having a better season than him. Mahomes has double the interceptions, and Russell Wilson has one touchdown more than Mahomes. Those are BIG. Two years ago Mahomes had seven straight games with interceptions. He didn't have a Patrick Mahomes-type season. I’m ready to say this: that Patrick Mahomes may have plateaued. We might have seen the best of Patrick Mahomes already in his career, and he may not be better than what he was. That’s not to say it’s ‘bad’ but he might have plateaued because two of the last three years have not been what we were used to seeing when he started so great the first couple years. You can’t keep stripping away everything. Statistically you have to admit this is his worst season.” (Full Segment Above)

Watch Rob Parker of Fox Sports Radio’s The Odd Couple explain why he believes we may have already seen the best of Patrick Mahomes, as Rob says the 28-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion could be on the downswing of his NFL career.

Mahomes’ eight interceptions tie him with six other players for the second-most interceptions in the league, with Jimmy Garoppolo’s nine at the top. Mahomes’ passer rating is down nearly 10 points from last year [105.2/95.8], and his yards per attempt is also down from 8.1 in 2022 to 7.4 this season.

The Chiefs scoring is way down as well. After leading the NFL with 29.2 points per game last season, the Chiefs are only scoring 23.4 points per game in 2023, 12th in the NFL. Versus the Broncos in Week 9, Mahomes posted just a 59.2 passer rating, with two interceptions, one lost fumble, and zero touchdowns in a blowout loss to the lowly Broncos.

Check out the segment above as Parker details why he believes Mahomes is simply living off reputation as this point, and that he’s clearly no longer the best quarterback in the NFL.
