Rob Parker Rants on the Hypocrisy Around Kevin Durant's Stance on Marijuana

Kevin Durant on his partnership with a marijuana e-commerce company:

"I think it's far past time to address the stigmas around cannabis that still exist in the sports world as well as globally. This partnership is going to help us continue to normalize those conversations."

Rob Parker: “When Kevin Durant was asked when he partakes in the weed he declined to answer. HE’S THE ONE WHO WANTED TO GET RID OF THE STIGMA! If he wants to get rid of the stigma then why is he afraid to say that he partakes in weed, which he can smoke in the offseason, or whenever there’s no tests and you can do whatever you want. He’s a star player who can obviously function and do whatever he does. People can say ‘jUsT bEcAuSe hE’s iNvoLvEd iN cAnNaBiS aNd iNveStS iN iT dOeSn’T mEaN hE sMoKeS iT’, YEAH RIGHT. My point is, if it’s okay and you want to get rid of the ‘stigma’ you gotta stand up and be counted. If the 10 or 20 best players stood up and said ‘WE SMOKE WEED AND WE DON’T THINK IT’S A BAD THING, HERE ARE THE REASONS WHY, AND WE NEED TO STOP MARKING PEOPLE WITH A CHECKMARK IF YOU FIND OUT THEY SMOKE WEED’ that’s how you make changes. For him to say he doesn’t want to discuss it just sounds weird to me, like he’s ashamed, or he’s afraid that people will look at him differently, and they won’t sign him to some deals. He’s making $50 million a year, he doesn’t need any deals. He can sign a cannabis deal! He says he doesn’t want it to be a ‘stigma’ yet how does it get to that point? How do you stop it from becoming a stigma if you’re not willing to stand up and raise your hand and say ‘I DO IT.' You gotta show other people that successful people who function in this society can smoke weed, and it’s not just about the munchies and zoning out. I’m not against people smoking weed, but I don’t understand why people are so afraid to stand up. They love it and they smoke it every day. They asked him [if he smokes] and he declined. If you don’t have a problem with it, SAY IT. The more people who come out who are successful and are doing well in society, and it’s not just some burnout getting high who wants to play video games all day and fall asleep. If he said he made an investment and he didn’t bring up the idea of trying to desensitize people to weed so people don’t look at it as a stigma, it would be good if he leads the charge and says ‘I’M A WEED SMOKER.’ (Full Video Above)

Listen to Rob Parker discuss the recent news of Kevin Durant partnering with an e-commerce marijuana website called ‘Weedmaps’, as Parker calls out the hypocrisy of Durant stating he signed the sponsorship to ‘destigmatize’ the use of weed in professional sports, yet at the same time also declining to comment on whether he actually smokes weed.

Check out the discussion below with co-host Martin Weiss, filling in for Chris Broussard on The Odd Couple, as Rob details why Durant publicly admitting that he smokes cannabis recreationally would do a lot more for eliminating the stigma around marijuana, than simply signing this sponsorship and then declining to comment on his own personal usage, and thus adding to the stigma.
